Indy 500 practice rained out
Rain washed out Wednesday?s Indianapolis 500 practice, the fourth time in five days that rain shortened or eliminated a session.
Crews tried to keep the track dry, but track officials called off practice just after 3 p.m.
Tuesday?s practice was limited to two participants. That day, Marco Andretti and Mike Conway were the only drivers to take to the track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway before officials called off the session. Rain also eliminated Sunday?s practice and 2 1/2 hours of Saturday?s session.
The teams are preparing for qualifying on Saturday and Sunday, when the order for the start of the May 29 race will be determined.
Empty Brickyard seats expected
Ticket sales for this year?s Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis are lagging behind last year?s pace, and race organizers worry it could produce a second straight record-low turnout for the July 31 race.
?We don?t disclose numbers, but you saw a lot of empty seats here last year, and I think you?re going to see more here this year,? Indianapolis Motor Speedway president and CEO Jeff Belskus said Tuesday.
Declining ticket sales already have hit two of NASCAR fans? favorite tracks this season ? Bristol and Talladega. And Dover had empty sections at Sunday?s race.
