Articles 20VN | Self Improvement - The Value | self-improvement ...

A self-improvement process is as old as human kind, albeit not necessarily formal in the beginning. In today's world self-improvement programs, lectures, workshops, videos, CD, DVD, books, etc. is a $9.6 billion a year business, according to a study conducted by Marketdata Enterprises, Inc. The study analyzed profiles of 40+ top motivational speakers/gurus from Deepak Chopra to TV personality and former Psychologist, Phil McGraw, PhD, popularly known as Dr. Phil.

If your self-improvement quest is to shed five pounds or change an annoying habit, it is easy. However, making deep inner changes that bring you to happiness, contentment and success is a challenging undertaking.

To make changes on a deep emotional or physical level, you need to do an inspection through introspection, and this needs to be done from a neutral perspective. It is important to drop the labels and the old programs that you run about yourself in order to see what is truly there. This can be particularly difficult if your self-esteem is going through a rough period, as you might only see your negative aspects, then pile up so many things to improve that change looks nearly impossible.

Going deep within to find what is causing the pain, disease, distress needs to be done only with the help of a professional, who has the skills to help you process everything while staying balanced. No improvement will occur if the introspection process leaves you discouraged and depressed. If your intention to improve is sincere and serious, you will be able to find the starting place and go about it gently and steadily.

If you want to use only self-help methods, it is best to start by improving the things that are already strengths. If you have an interest for writing, for example, develop it. Take a writing class. When you are confident in your writing skills submit some of your work to publications, which accept new authors. Or submit articles on-line to Web sites, such as EzineArticles.com; helium.com; searchwarp.com and Qondio.com. Helium and Qondio allow contributors to evaluate each other's writing and give tips how to improve. There are many writing and poetry contests on the Internet. Submit your work and enjoy the rewards. Start a blog. There are many free blog sites and social networks that allow blogging/article posting. Last, but not least, write a novel or non-fiction book.

If you enjoy speaking join a Toastmaster's group to hone your presentation skills. Promote yourself to organizations. Many organizations are seeking inexpensive, or pro bono, yet, skilled speakers.

If you enjoy cooking, take cooking classes to improve your skills. It is fun to learn about food preparation and presentation. Invite friends to sample your creations to give you feedback. Over the years I have been invited to many dinners by people, who are honing their cooking skills. I have enjoyed the experience as much as going to a good restaurant.

Beginning with your good traits and fine-tuning them will add to your confidence, increase your self-esteem, help you meet new people and give you satisfaction in your improvements.

Deep self-improvement requires time and commitment. For those who sincerely want to make improvements, you will learn quickly that it is well-worth the effort.

While the cliché that deep self-improvement takes many years, it is not unfounded, when traditional talk therapy is the modality.

The most effective modality is holistic healing vis-a-vis the subconscious mind facilitated through a hypnotic trance. It is a process that begins with discovering the source of the pain, disease, distress and the healing takes place as the process unfolds. A holistic process is gentle, persistent, and thorough, thus improvement in one area improves the whole.

There is a plethora of scientific proof that all emotional and physical diagnosis from A to Z (Abdominal pain to Zits and everything in between) can be healed with a holistic approach--mind. body, spirit. Ask me.
