McAllen Rowe QB Gets Statewide Honor for Season-Ending ...

MCALLEN, TX -- McAllen Rowe High quarterback Javi Obregon received his state award ? the Built Ford Tough Player of the Week ? Friday, Dec. 21 at Rowe.?

Obregon was named the Built Ford Tough Player of the Week following Rowe?s 50-43 double overtime win over Weslaco East Nov. 9. It was the season?s last regular season game. The win capped a three-game win streak and lifted Rowe into the playoffs.

Obregon produced five touchdowns against the Wildcats. The senior signal-caller completed 27 of 37 passes for 343 yards with one TD against East. He also ran for 119 yards on 27 carries for another four scores.

The award caps a season in which Obregon was named the District 31-5A Most Valuable Player.

For the season, Obregon threw for 3,226 yards and 33 touchdowns (completing 239 of 338 passes, 71 percent). He ran for 1,031 yards and 17 TDs, averaging 4.5 yards per rush on 230 attempts. This season he also set a school records for most yards passing in one game (578), most TD passes in one game (six) and most TD passes in one season (33).?

The Warriors went 6-5 this season.
